What is Thyristor?

Thyristor is a solid-state semiconductor device used to switch and control high power. It operates like a diode with an additional gate terminal, which allows it to be turned on by a small gate current. Thyristors are commonly used in AC power control, such as in light dimmers and motor speed controllers.
