What is General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO)?

General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) refers to a generic pin on an integrated circuit or microcontroller that can be programmed to function as an input or output signal. GPIOs are used in embedded systems to interface with sensors, switches, and other peripherals.
